What are the goals of the MCIR?
To protect all Michiganders and our communities from vaccine-preventable diseases.
To decrease the number of missed opportunities to provide immunizations.
To increase Michigan’s immunization rates.
What is the purpose of the MCIR?
The MCIR electronically records a client’s immunization history. Within minutes, public and private providers can receive reliable immunization information that allows them to determine exactly what shots are needed. By making up-to-date immunization records available to physicians participating in the MCIR statewide, there is a significant reduction in the occurrence of over immunization and a significant increase in the opportunity to adequately immunize Michigan's population.
What is the Target Population of the MCIR?
The MCIR became a "lifespan" registry on June 5, 2006. The MCIR targets Michigan's entire popluation - from infants to the elderly.
How does a provider, school or childcare access the MCIR?
To obtain additional registration information and/or registration assistance please contact Region 6 MCIR at 1-888-217-3905.
There is no cost for MCIR access, but you are required to register and you must be a licensed medical care facility, school, childcare or another organization requiring immunization information for patient/student care and to meet state, federal and/or national immunization standards and requirements.
