Accomplishments

More than 6.9 million persons currently are included in the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR).
More than 83 million doses have been entered by immunization providers.
The MCIR Web application uses the State of Michigan's Single Sign On web application portal for security and access.
MCIR's link with lead screening provides child lead screening information to providers and licensed childcare centers.
Providers are also able to view a child’s Newborn Metabolic Screening (NBS), Newborn Hearing Screening (Early Hearing Detection Intervention, “EHDI”), and Early Periodic Screening and Diagnostic Testing (EPSDT) through MCIR.
Providers and Local Health Departments use the MCIR Vaccine Inventory Module (VIM) to account for Michigan Vaccines For Children (MI-VFC) vaccine stock.

In October 2003 MCIR received 2 out of 3 national Immunization Registry awards:
The Grow Award acknowledges an immunization registry that has achieved participation from a high percentage of health care providers from the public and private sectors through effective, innovative, sustainable, and generalizable recruitment strategies.
The Protect Awardrecognizes the role that immunization registries play in supporting immunization program decision-making. This award acknowledges the application of registry data in measuring and monitoring immunization coverage, and in ultimately protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Profile Reports are being used by providers to assess the immunization levels of their patients, so they can take steps to increase the immunization levels at their clinic.

Local health departments have the ability to do population-based immunization level assessments and target their outreach efforts to areas where the need is greatest.
